Dr. Lareau is the Stanely I. Sheerr Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the author of Unequal Childhoods: Class, Race, and Family Life, which won a distinguished publication award from the Sociology of Family, Sociology of Childhood, and Sociology of Culture sections of the American Sociological Association. Her first book, Home Advantage, also received a distinguished publication award from the Sociology of Education section. She is also the co-editor (with Kimberly Goyette) of the books Choosing Homes, Choosing Schools which examines the factors that influence parents' decisions where to live and where to send their children to school. She also co-edited the books Educational Research on Trial, Social Class: How Does it Work, and Journeys through Ethnography. She has served as President of the American Sociological Association.
